NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — Rep. Claudia Tenney is proud of her time in office so far.

"Thanks to President Trump and commonsense Republicans in Congress, we've rolled back crippling regulations, cut taxes to put money back in your pockets, repealed the individual mandate that forced us to buy unaffordable government insurance and we've taken a frontal attack at the opioid crisis and we've begun the daunting task of rebuilding our military," said Tenney, (R) 22nd Congressional District.

She hopes to keep that momentum for another term, and formally announced her reelection campaign in New Hartford on Saturday.

Tenney wants to continue tackling opioid addictions, restore Community Service Block Grant funding and support public health centers.

"Making the tax cuts permanent is really important, rolling back more regulations and just continuing to strengthen our support for our military," Tenney said.

The congresswoman recently made some controversial comments during an interview last month with Fred Dicker on his "Focus on the State Capitol" radio show. Her remarks linked Democrats to mass murders, saying "It's interesting that so many of people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats. But the media doesn't talk about that either."

Tenney says she does not believe her recent statements will affect her campaign.

"I think my campaign is very strong. People know that I tell the truth, and sometimes the truth hurts. But I also feel like we have a mega smear campaign out there that's trying to twist, coming from the D-triple-C, trying to twist and pull words out of context to try to create something out of nothing,” said Tenney.

Many are standing by Tenney and say they're looking forward to helping her move forward.

"I support her supporting the president, number one. And I support the tax decreases, her help for farmers, her help for working families," said supporter Peggy Roberts.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi (D) is running against Claudia Tenney for the seat.

He previously said her comment about how many mass murderers end up being Democrats was "shameful" and "embarrassing.”
