Sen. Jim Tedisco is drafting legislation for a special New York State license plate that could provide resources to school safety.

The proceeds for Tedisco's proposed "Guardians for Schools" plates would go toward armed school resource officers, mental health counseling, active shooter training, security cameras and anything else that schools feel would improve safety.

This legislation comes after the New York State Sheriff's Association called for the funding of armed resource officers in every elementary and high school in the state.

There is currently legislation pending for that proposal, as well as an additional proposal for increased safety funding.
