Threats of violence and school shootings are something many local school districts and police departments already prepare for by putting protocols and procedures in place.

Since Wednesday's shooting in Florida, several local schools have investigated perceived threats. Luckily, all of them were unfounded and deemed not credible.

In an effort to ease people's minds, some law enforcement agencies have offered to increase security at nearby schools. Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered the New York State Police to increase patrols around schools throughout the state.

School officials continue to encourage students and parents to speak up if they see or hear something suspicious or concerning. They said nothing is too insignificant to report.

Schools said this week's shooting is prompting them to give their protocols another look to see if any improvements can be made.
