ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York State awarded $4 million as part of its effort to continue battling the heroin and opioid epidemic.

On Tuesday, the governor's office announced funding to develop 10 24/7 open access centers across the state. One of them will be in Albany County, which received $248,000.

The goal is to make help available for anyone seeking treatment at any time of the day.

"It's just going to be something that they'll be able to know that they can get help from the minute it happens, no matter what time of day it is, regardless if it's a holiday or if it's 4 in the morning, 5 in the morning," said Albany County Executive Dan McCoy. "We're going to be able to help them."

Albany County will be working with many local agencies and six other counties to provide support throughout the region.
