One family is being assisted by the Red Cross after a fire on Marguerite Avenue in Syracuse.

District Chief Terry Williams said flames were coming out of the first floor of the two-family home when they arrived Wednesday.

The fire then spread outside and into the attic, but they were able to put it out quickly.

Williams said at least two people were home when the fire started and escaped on their own. He’s unsure if anyone was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
