WASHINGTON — Lawmakers are two days away from a potential government shutdown.

They have to make a plan by Friday to prevent one, but there is division within in the GOP itself.

House Republican leaders came up with a plan Tuesday that would delay the shutdown until mid-February. Hardline conservatives are threatening to scuttle the plan. They said the party lacks the votes to push this through the House and talks continue.

"The blame game is world-class sport here in Washington D.C.," U.S. Senator John Cornyn said. "I'd rather do our job and keep the government up and running and continue negotiations, so I don't think there's going to be a shutdown. I think that would be a big mistake."

There is also no deal yet on DACA, the program that protects young immigrants from being deported. Democrats have signalled that they won't agree on government funding without a DACA deal.
