The final family from the Sylvan Beach area forced to evacuate over the weekend left the Red Cross shelter Monday.

They were able to return home two days after water rushed in.

They had been staying at the Vienna Methodist Church.

Now, they have to deal with below zero temperatures, causing the water to freeze the front yards and driveways, turning them into makeshift ice-skating rinks.

“My neighbors left at the same time as us, and the water was up over our tires, it was deeper down there, in here water was coming from this way and over there, so we got hit really bad,” said Shawnna Cox, Sylvan Beach homeowner.

Any nearby community members in need of assistance can call the Red Cross or the Sylan Beach Fire Department.
