Four teenagers, including a 15-year-old and 16-year-old are now facing murder charges for a shooting in Syracuse last month.

James Smith Jr., 33, was shot inside his home on Merriman Avenue early on the morning of December 12.

Police say four young men, ages 15 to 19 forcibly entered the home around 1 a.m., and shot Smith in the hip during a confrontation.

Smith died shortly after he was taken to the hospital.

This week police arrested 19-year-old Quinton Gathings 17-year-old Tyrone Byrd, 16-year-old Francis Mercado, and a 15-year-old who is not being identified because of his age.

All four are charged with second-degree murder and first-degree burglary.

The three older suspects were jailed at the justice center, but their mugshots are not being released due to an ongoing investigation.

The 15-year-old was taken to Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Facility.
