Residents can only imagine what the upcoming days will look like.

The ongoing snow and cold temperatures over the next couple days will make for a very rough commute along 690.

That's not the only problem. There is construction on the highway as well.

Many drivers Spectrum News spoke with say they are worried for their safety because the highway gets narrow in the construction area where bridge work is being done over Teall Avenue and Beech Street. They also say it's hard to see traffic lanes when weather is this bad, and at times, you see a few drivers who are not as cautious as they should be.

Some drivers say the best way to avoid the predicted chaos is to stay off the highway altogether.

"It's a thing to avoid. It's the easiest way for me to get here from Liverpool is to get on 690," said Kathleen Ferguson, a Liverpool resident. "But I find myself going, 'oh no, can't go that way.' You know? I have to figure it out. OK, I'll go 81. I don't take the most direct route because of the construction. It's scary."

The Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to drive slowly and allow extra time to get to your destination.
