There's a renewed sense of hope at the Utica Children's Museum.

Earlier this month, museum leaders announced a new partnership with local non-profit Kids Oneida. They are the driving force behind the museum's new strategic plan, also helping provide administrative and marketing support.

In an effort to better connect with the community, museum leaders say they've become much more active through social media, keeping families up to date on their latest events.

"It's important for us that the museum is available and accessible to the community, but it's also cleaned and maintained in the way that it should," said Kids Oneida Executive Director Steven Bulger.

"It's not the sort of partnership you could have seen in the past. So we're trying to work with lots of community agencies, lots of other organizations, and that's the way we're all going to stay alive the best, is by creating exciting partnerships," said Children's Museum Board President Helen Schwartz.

Those new relationships have already led to a new sponsor joining the museum. On Friday, long-time Utica business Bohling's Auto Service cut the ribbon on its Kids' Mechanic Shop, which is part of the museum's Main Street exhibit.

"It's great when businesses are able to outreach with the non-profit community and able to provide these types of experiences for kids. I think it's something businesses should absolutely line up to do," Justin Bohling said.

Museum leaders say there are still 10 store fronts on their Main Street that are looking for sponsors. They're hoping other local businesses and stores will jump on board.
