The snow is starting to really hit the Syracuse area. A lake effect system has been churning all night just off of Lake Ontario, but we're seeing road conditions take a turn for the worse.

Meteorologists say there are wind gusts between 30 and 40 miles per hour, so obviously that is not making it very easy to see.

It's a good day to warm your vehicle up and keep the defroster on high, so that the snow and slush doesn't hamper your ability to see out the windshield.

In addition to the visibility, the actual road conditions are also going to be a challenge Wednesday.

Early Tuesday afternoon, the temperatures dropped significantly and created quite a few patches of black ice which ultimately created dangerous, slick roadways.

Because of these colder temperatures, the salt brine isn't expected to be as effective to melt the ice.

If you top these slick roads off with some fresh snow -- things are really going to be tricky.
