For some families, the holiday season is a fun time of year filled with traditions and cheer. However, for families who have lost a child, it can be a painful reminder. Melissa Krull has more on an event where organizers hope to help them during this difficult time.

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- It was a moving night in New Hartford, as more than 100 people come out to remember children who have passed away.

The Compassionate Friends of the Mohawk Valley organization hosted their 7th annual Candle Lighting for Deceased Children on Sunday. This year it was held at the First United Methodist Church of New Hartford.

Not only does the event allow people to remember their deceased loved ones, but it also helps them grieve with others who feel the pain of losing a child.

"It gives the public an opportunity to honor the memory of those children who have gone, remember their legacies, and just have a safer and really, sacred space where they can just have a rest from holiday stress, and be with other people who understand the path," said Compassionate Friends of the Mohawk Valley Chapter Leader David Roberts.

This was just one of the "Compassionate Friends" candle lighting events taking place worldwide. For more information on the Mohawk Valley chapter, visit: tcfmohawkvalley.org.
