SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A 63-year-old woman was seriously injured and a firefighter is being evaluated for an ankle injury after a house fire in Syracuse.

Crews were called to a Wadworth Street home shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday.

The resident was found in bed on the second floor. Officials say she has a back problem and was unable to get out.

She was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

According to the Fire Chief, firefighters had a difficult time getting to the fire due to the condition of the home.

“The firemen say there’s nothing burned in the rooms so it has to be in the wall and it’s hard to get to all that fire with all the clutter," said Paul Linnertz, Syracuse Fire Chief.

Linnertz says there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
