SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- In 2016, roughly 2,000 veterans were transported every month across 14 counties from the North Country to the Southern Tier.

Disable American Veterans said these numbers illustrate the critical need for volunteer drivers. In the past, they've had to turn some veterans away because there weren't enough volunteers.

To become a driver, you have to be at least 21 years old, have a clean driving record, pass a physical exam or health screening and undergo a background check. If you want to volunteer you can call the DAV recruitment office at (315) 425-4343.
