David Carr responded to a Friday night fire at Curran Renewable Energy. Firefighters say he returned to the station Saturday and seemed fine.

"And then he returned to his residence where he collapsed," said Brasher-Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department President Randy Thayer.

Carr died within 24 hours of responding to the fire. Fellow volunteer firefighters spent Monday preparing for a procession to guide Carr's body to the funeral home.

Carr's funeral will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. The department will hold a service at the station following the funeral. It will be open to the public.
