FRANKFORT, N.Y. -- Several Higby Road residents say they've witnessed people speeding, illegally passing and getting into crashes.

"The main problem is, it's not the road so much as it is the people that drive this road because people don't care. They'll get on the phone, they'll text, who's fixing their hair, who's doing this, who's doing that. It had to stop," said Herkimer County Legislator John Brezinski.

About a month ago the speed limit was changed from 55 miles per hour to 45 or 50 on different parts of the road. There's also more police presence.

Residents said it's an improvement, but would like to see some other actions taken.

Some want more speed limit signs, and others also want tractor trailers banned or at least limited.

Brezinski commends the police for their work, and would like to see more state police assigned to Herkimer County. He said the entire road is expected to be redone next year, with the addition of rumble strips.
