DEWITT, N.Y. -- Local residents are having mixed opinions about the potential site of a long-debated inland port in Onondaga County.

A spokesperson for County Executive Joanie Mahoney says the DeWitt rail yard is the first preference for the project.

They say the existing railroad is a boost, and that the project would bring about 2,000, but there are still many details that need to be worked out.

Restaurant owners near the rail yard say housing the inland port would help their business significantly.

While some residents say it would bring too much traffic to an already congested area.

"I think it will devastate the area," said Maggie Gaesk, East Syracuse resident. "It might bring money, it might bring jobs, but the area around here will be more congested. The home values will go down.  Who wants to live near all of this?"

"Bring jobs, bring activity, bring development," Aaron Wood, business owner. "I think it's a great thing for me as a small business and for the community members."

Inland port development was part of Central New York's winning $500 million Upstate Revitalization Plan.

A site to house it has yet to be officially chosen.
