The Green Party candidate for mayor is laying out his plan for a “greener” Syracuse. Howie Hawkins unveiled his ideas to make the city more sustainable.
Hawkins wants a walkable neighborhood environment city-wide, including tearing down the I-81 viaduct downtown. He'd also like to see the Erie Canal flow from the Inner Harbor through Clinton Square.
He'd also like Onondaga Creek to have an organic cultural corridor.
"It'll be expensive, but you have a plan and you build it in segments. So it doesn't have to be done in one year or with one grant,” Hawkins said.
In the latest Spectrum News/Siena poll, Hawkins had just 5 percent of the vote among those who participated.
