SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Hospitals are scary for kids and their families, no matter the season. For Halloween, children at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital picked out costumes, danced to music and did arts and crafts.

The Halloween party is part of Spirit Halloween's hospital outreach organization, Spirit of Children, focused on making hospitals less scary for kids and their families.

“You see them come in and they’ve come from a treatment or their room, and they come in a little reserved, and as soon as they start seeing the costumes and doing the crafts they get really excited, and seeing their faces like up is the whole reason we do this", says Melinda Rosini, Spirit Halloween.

The costumes from today's party will be worn by the kids on Halloween to trick or treat in the hospital, while staff members will give out candy.
