For the first time ever, NASA says they've observed the collision of two neutron stars, and a very powerful explosion resulted, releasing massive amounts of power, radiation, light, and -- amazingly enough -- a cosmic mine of gold and platinum.

"This explosion happened in a galaxy that is more than 130 million light years away, so relatively far from us, but over 100 solid earth's worth of gold and platinum were formed and sent out from this explosion at very high speeds into the space between stars...where ultimately new stars and planets are formed and its incorporated into those and maybe even into systems into future jewelry," said NASA astrophysicist Brad Cenko.

In the above video, NASA tells our Burton Fitzsimmons more about this week's huge news from outer space.
