SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner says college athletes should be paid for what they bring to their institutions.

“This is something that I have been following for a long time," said Miner, D-Syracuse. "Before I was a mayor, I was a labor lawyer and so I've looked at this issue about athletes as a labor lawyer and then as time has gone on we've just seen scandal after scandal.”

On Twitter, she advocated for compensation for players, saying the institutions profit off of players.

“We want to end the corruption and also stop the exploitation of often young black males. If we paid them, we would stop the corruption, we would end the exploitation,” she said.
