Multiple cases of the mumps have been confirmed by health officials at Syracuse University.

So far, 14 students have contracted the virus in what appears to involve students in the same social circles. Health officials will isolate sick students and sanitize areas they've come in contact with.

Most people make a full recovery within a few weeks with the help of over-the-counter medication.

Vaccination is the best form of prevention. Officials say covering your mouth and nose while coughing, washing your hands throughly with soapy water and avoiding sharing cups and utensils are other ways to stop its spread.

Anybody who experiences symptoms should contact their physician.
