Monarch butterflies from Canada are taking flight to Mexico. That means now's the perfect time to spot one in Upstate New York.
The current weather conditions here may be giving them reason to stick around a little longer.
SUNY ESF doctoral student Rea Manderino says if you're looking to find one, look for nectar.
"Especially during the autumn, goldenrod is going to be your best bet this time of year," Manderino said. "Goldenrod is really where all that nectar is really packed. Otherwise butterfly gardens, any place with flowers."
She says the sun tips the butterflies off that it's time to start moving.
