SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: An aviation unit from Fort Drum will deploy to South Korea next week. A deployment ceremony was held Tuesday for the 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade. 

The last time the cavalry regiment was in Korea was 2015 and 2016 when they flew Kiowa Warrior but now the unit will fly Apache Longbow helicopters. The unit spent the last year strenuously training alongside the National Guard for this deployment.

The squadron's commanding officer says the unit is has a mission to fulfill regardless of what happens.

"While yes there is no active combat operations going on in Korea right now, there's nothing that says you know, who knows what's going to happen but that's not going to cut away at our readiness or our focus," said 6th Squardron, Air Calvalry, 6th CalvalryCommanding Officer Mathiu Petraitis. 

The unit is making the nine-month deployment to help with military operations in the Republic of Korea.
