It's typically a crystal clear place to a boat ride or a walk on the pier, but recently, Skaneateles Lake has been dealing with toxins produced from blue-green algae blooms.

Syracuse professor Charles Driscoll says the blooms accumulate at the surface and can release toxins that are harmful to touch or ingest.

The lake is the source of water for the city of Syracuse, but the source comes from deep down, and Mayor Stephanie Miner says testing found no sign of the blooms in the system.

"In terms of people who live in Skaneateles and take the water directly out of the lake, it's hard to give advice, because different water supplies are at different depths," Driscoll said. "Different people have different levels of treatment, and so I think that if people are concerned, they should drink bottled water."
