UTICA, N.Y. -- There were several primaries on the Utica Common Council, with incumbents coming out on the winning end.

Current Fourth Ward Councilor Joseph Marino won the Democratic party line. Marino was up against former Councilor Frank Meola and won by 20 votes.

He celebrated at Parkway Pizza on Culver Avenue.

"I just work hard and I tell people what I can do for them, and tonight they spoke in my favor. It's tremendous. It's a good feeling. I love this area. I love this city, and East Utica is my home," Marino said.

Fifth Ward Councilor Bill Phillips won the Democratic line against former Councilor Jerome McKinsey, and Samantha Colosimo-Testa beat out Frank Pelli for the Republican line. She currently represents the Sixth Ward.
