GEDDES, N.Y. -- Day eight at the Great New York State Fair is highlighted by Women's Day. There are different events planned to promote women's advocacy and good health. There's also one person in particular to keep an eye out for. He's a man on a mission to help women fighting cancer.

Laurence Segal is a volunteer at the fair with the Carol M. Baldwin Cancer Research Group.

In the past Laurence has spent time selling items from the pink booth to raise money for breast cancer research. But this year he's making a very special effort spending his days and nights collecting cans and bottles here on the fairgrounds.

He says in the first six days he was able to collect more than 17,000 cans and bottles.

He's been able to get some help from some of the groups and people he knows, while he's turning everything in to raise money for two groups.

Proceeds from his deposits at Bottles End in Solvay are helping both the Baldwin Research Fund and the American Cancer Society.

And of course if you're here at the fair, you can help the cause by recycling using the pink bin.

People can also get in for just $1 Wednesday and Thursday, as part of a thank you from Governor Cuomo. For those with pre-purchased tickets -- they are allowing people to use those tickets for the amount paid. So if you paid $6 for your ticket -- that will admit 6 people. No refunds will be given.
