LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- They run in when everyone else is running out.

On Saturday, the Fireman's Association of the State of New York held it's Heroes Awards Ceremony.

FASNY gave out the awards on the final day of its annual convention in Liverpool. It's the largest gathering of volunteer firefighters in the state.

People were recognized for achievements in firefighting, emergency services, teaching, fire safety education and community service.

The recipient of EMS Provider of the Year, who was first on the scene to help a patient who stopped breathing, credits his training for saving the man's life.

"You don't have time to think in that particular instant because you know it's someone's life on the line, with the proper technique and training I was able to resuscitate the man and he lives today," said Brandon Sutton, Rapid Volunteer Fire Co.

Sutton says he's still in touch with the man who later made a donation to his department.

This marked the 145th year of the convention.
