A Utica woman accused of murdering her mother has been found mentally unable to assist in her defense.

Tasheonia Hills was charged last month with second-degree murder.

Police say she stabbed her mother, 44-year-old Irene Williams, to death in their apartment in North Utica.

During previous court appearances, Hills was beligerent towards the Utica City Court judge and made several incoherent arguments. The judge ordered a mental evaluation.

Psychological examiners say Hills is incapacitated and lacks the ability to understand the proceedings.

She has been placed in the custody of the New York State Commissioner of Mental Health for at least 90 days and will be sent to an institution.

The district attorney's office says they plan to present the case to a grand jury.
