Big improvements are coming to the Oswego Speedway this fall as the venue becomes the new temporary site of Super DIRT Week. The event was supposed to be held at the Central New York Raceway, but construction has been delayed. Corina Cappabianca stopped by the track to see what’s new.

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Year after year, thousands of racing fans have rolled into the Fairgrounds for Super DIRT Week, but this October they’ll be heading to a new location.

“It's exciting number one that first of all an event of this nature can stay in New York State, but it's really exciting to have it come to Oswego County in the city of Oswego in particular,” said Oswego Speedway public relations director Dan Kapuscinski.

To prepare for the crowds the speedway is getting some new upgrades. They include camping spaces equipped with electric and water and a screen to play video and commercials during the races.

“Our crews have been working around the clock already for pretty much a month and they will be pretty much until the gates open," Kapuscinski said. "Renovating the rear grandstand is pretty much our biggest concern right now it holds about 7,000 people back there so we'll be working very diligently to get the old steel ripped out and replaced with new steel."

Crews will also be laying down about 600 loads of clay above the track’s pavement.

“We've been around for 66 years, but the track hasn't been covered in dirt since 1952. It's going to be very exciting to see the whole process take place and to see so many people come through the gates and see such a big event,” said Kapuscinski.

Super DIRT Week takes place October 5th through 9th.
