The village of Whitesboro in the Mohawk Valley made national headlines this month for their controversial village seal. And Thursday night, the story came full circle, debuting on Comedy Central's, "The Daily Show." Gabrielle Lucivero reports.

WHITESBORO, N.Y. -- Whitesboro was in the spotlight earlier this month because of their village seal, but it was almost entirely because of The Daily Show.

The Comedy Central show worked with village officials to hold a vote, letting residents choose from several alternatives to their current seal. Some of the options were even drawn up by the show.

The current seal shows the village's founder, Hugh White, engaged in a wrestling match with a Native American. Though to many, it looks like the Native American is being choked. The show focused on residents as they voted on alternative seal designs.

In the end, it looked like residents chose to keep the seal, something correspondent Jessica Williams couldn't quite wrap her head around.

The vote happened earlier this month; it wasn't official, but more just to gauge people's interest. Still more than half the voters chose to keep the seal as is.

However, the village met the night after the vote and decided that they'll work together with the Oneida Indian Nation to update the image.

The runner up image, with just 21 votes, was an image of the Erie Canal.
