SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Another part of the former Hotel Syracuse has been restored.

Family members donated a bronze plaque of the first hotel president. Joseph Griffin helped build and run the hotel in the early 20th century.

After his death, the plaque was displayed in the hotel lobby.

Family members say at some point it was taken down and eventually given to the Onondaga Lake Park Visitor Center.

The family gave the plaque back to the hotel on Wednesday.

“This is where it belongs,” plaque donor Nathaniel Riedel said. “And I know Joe Griffin would want it here. I know our family wants it here. The fact that they’re affiliated with the Marriott Group tell you there’s a solid organization behind this event and what they’re trying to do.”

The hotel, renamed Marriott Syracuse Downtown, is scheduled to open this summer.
