SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A new kids camp focused on science, technology, engineering and math gets underway Monday at Destiny USA. WonderWorks interactive amusement park hosts it's first-ever science camp this week.
WonderWorks is a popular summer destination for all its interactive exhibits but this is the first time the local museum is hosting a camp like this. There are still spots open for the camp that begins at 9 a.m. and runs everyday this week. The goal is to increase awareness about science, technology, engineering and math.
The camp is targeted for kids between 5 and 10 and will include a different theme everyday. In addition to enjoying exhibits and the ropes course, kids will do some experimenting, crafts and hear from outside speakers. Organizers say continuous improvement of STEM education is critical while this camp makes learning fun.
"They can expect their child to really get out of camp, an educational value to camp. They're going to have an educational experience as well as fun. That is the most important thing out of camp, is they're definitely going to leaving having a WonderWorks experience and fun," said Casey Stewart, WonderWorks education manager.
The camp runs each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost of the camp is $225. Kids are required to bring a bagged lunch and a pair of sneakers.
