All 13 days of the Great New York State Fair are packed with exciting attractions, deals and events. Here’s Lacey’s Look Ahead for the last part of the 2018 fair season.

Tuesday, Aug. 28

New at the state fair this year is the opportunity to “Pound out Hunger” right outside the beef barn. You can take a (literal) swing and try your chances at demolishing a car. One swing for $2 or three swings for $5. It’s all to collect donations for beef purchases for New Yorkers most in need.

And of course on Beef Day you can come watch local media personalities compete to become the “Branding Iron Chef.” It’s a media grilling contest where a panel of judges will decide who has the best burger. We of course have been the champions a time or two – wish us luck!

Senior citizens get into the fair free – only if you are 60 years old or older, of course. College students can also get in for just a buck.

And for those of you who want some old school soul music the Temptations will be harmonizing Chevy Court at 2 p.m. followed by Celtic-influenced rockers Dropkick Murphys at 8 p.m.

The band was brought in to replace guitarist Dickey Betts who was forced to cancel his fair appearance because of a reported stroke.

Wednesday, Aug. 29

The last Wednesday of the 2018 fair season celebrates everything women. A mini-fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Chevy Court where advocacy groups for women will be on hand for fairgoers. There will also be a special parade at 6 p.m.

Don’t forget the Lil Yachty performance in Chevy Court at 8 p.m. and right across the lots the Godsmack and Shinedown concert will be rocking the amphitheater.

Thursday, Aug. 30

Thursday is another $3 admission day, unless you are a college student then admission is $1, or a military member (vet or active duty) you can get in for free. It is also the third Senior Day – allowing seniors to enjoy a cooler day at the fair.

The day is filled with events celebrating the hard work of our military members here in New York and around the nation. There will be a ceremony at 11 a.m. along with a special parade at 6 p.m. where Armed Forces participants will march.

Don’t miss the pig racing at 12 p.m. in the Family Fun Zone, Hanson’s performance at Chevy Court at 8 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 31

The state fair will take Friday to honor Native American tribes with free admission for member through Gate 4. The Indian Village will have cultural performances and crafts.

For anyone wearing any SU apparel – you can get in for just a dollar, and those under the age of 18 can get in absolutely free.

There will traditional Indian dances at the Iroquois Indian Village at 4 p.m., the Ripcords at the Experience Stage at 6 p.m., as well as the Big & Rich performance at Chevy Court at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 1

Saturday celebrates the achievements of the NYS Grange – which supports and advocates for rural communities and agriculture – the base of the fair.

Don’t forget Hilby the German Juggle Boys performances throughout the day, and hot air balloon rides at the NY Experience Festival grounds until dusk.

ZZ Top will be killing it at Chevy Court at 8 p.m. and over at the amphitheater Ozzy Osbourne will be rocking the crowd.

Sunday, Sept. 2

For Timber Sports and Forestry Experience Day collegiate teams will be traveling to the fairground for demonstrations and competitions. The demos take place at 11 a.m.

The entertainment at Chevy Court is Brownskin Band at 2 p.m. and Boogie Wit da Hoodie at 8 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 3

Last but certainly not least is $1 admission for Labor Day at the fair. Dollar Day is the annual summer sendoff where admission is not only a dollar, but all the rides are also just a buck.

Fair officials will light up the night and say farewell at dusk with fireworks after the end of the 6 p.m. show at Chevy Court, which this year is Nail Horan, formerly of One Direction.
