SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: With the latest school year just a few weeks in, parents always want to know about school safety. State Senator Joseph Griffo discusses the need to always stay vigilant when it comes to keeping school safe. He says support is the first step to protect students, teachers and administrators, but taking it a step further with things like school bus cameras.

Griffo is pushing school safety legislation that he says shouldn’t be debatable – it is a need in New York state. Providing funding, resources and the technology for safety in schools should be mandatory. And another element that he says is important to the legislations overall goal is the mental health aspect in schools. The senator also mentioned that there should be severe penalties for those who are threatening school safety on all levels.

Funding hurdles will have to be addressed, Griffo says, and the state budget should allocate additional money toward the legislation’s goal.
