SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse police are investigating a shooting at 148 Hope Ave. that left one 15-year-old dead and another teen injured near Syracuse University.

Two suspects dumped their car and fled into Oakwood Cemetery, where police searched until about midnight before calling off the search. 

Police were fired upon by a suspect or suspects while at the scene near Hope Avenue. They were also shot at near Moore and Lorraine Avenues near Oakwood.

No officers were injured, according to police.

The second shooting victim, a 17-year-old male, suffered a leg injury, police said.

Police have not reported any arrests.

Syracuse University issued an "Orange Alert" Wednesday night alerting students that Syracuse police were investigating a crime off-campus. Students were told to remain indoors and not to let anyone in.

Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler said there is no direct connection between the shooting and the school, and that the alert was a precautionary measure.
