A former Utica College student is on trial for two charges of making a terroristic threat, stemming from threatening phone calls made to the school in March.

Monday was day one of the trial. The jury was selected and the trial for Fahrudin Omerovic got started.

Opening statements took place and a few witnesses took the stand, including the Utica College director of campus safety.

He said the effects of the alleged threats that came in on March 5 and 6 still are felt on the campus.

The calls put the whole campus on lockdown for several hours and brought in several members in law enforcement, from local police to the FBI.

Omerovic allegedly made the calls through an app to hide his phone number.

His attorney, John Raspante, said Omerovic did make the threats, but he was under the influence of Adderall.

More than two dozen witnesses are expected to testify in the case. It’s expected to continue into early December.

Omerovic was previously offered a plea deal, but he turned it down.
