UTICA, N.Y. -- Police have identified the teenager killed in a shooting in Utica on Sunday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police responded to the 700 block of Elizabeth Street where they found 17-year-old Stefan Medina with a gunshot wound.

He died later Sunday night at the hospital.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

They believe two groups of males had a disagreement which led to the shooting.

"It wasn't a random act persay, we don't believe. At this point it appears there was some interaction between possibly two groups of males and ultimately, Stefan suffered injuries from gunfire," said Utica Police Lt. Bryan Coromato.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Utica police at (315) 223-3510.

Medina's family has started a GoFundMe page to help offset expenses.
