ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Police announced an arrest after an elderly woman was found murdered inside of her apartment on Green Knolls Drive, which is off of Westfall Road, near the city's border with Brighton.

According to police, the victim was 101 years old. She has been identified as Marcia Morrison.

Grey Jesmer, 54, was arraigned Wednesday morning on charges of second degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child. Police say he was originally apprehended for propositioning a 13-year-old girl. Investigators then connected Jesmer as a potential suspect to the murder.

According to court paperwork, Jesmer stabbed Morrison in the neck, throat and upper body with a knife, causing significant trauma.

Court paperwork also says Jesmer approached the teen girl after she got off a bus, and enticed her to go into his apartment. The paperwork goes on to say that Jesmer offered her $500, to which she refused, and then he offered $1,000 and she tried to run away. That's when a bystander noticed what was happening and called police. Jesmer did not know the 13-year-old.

"Personally I'm appalled that something like that can happen. This woman was just trying to live her life and whoever did this to her, shame on them," said neighbor Tommy Mosley.

Officers responded to the scene of the murder shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, after a senior center contacted police with concerns about the woman’s welfare. Officers discovered Morrison's body after she failed to answer the door.

Jesmer pleaded not guilty and is being held on no bail, no release. He's scheduled to return to court on July 20 for a preliminary hearing.
