VOLNEY, N.Y. — A firefighter was taken to the hospital Wednesday night from the scene of a fire in Volney.

Crews were called to a home on Dietrich Road just before 10 p.m. after a family noticed smoke coming from their garage.

The garage and an apartment located in the same building were both damaged by the flames, but the house itself was not.

According to the Volney Fire Chief, a Scriba firefighter in his 20s suffered from exhaustion at the scene and had to be taken to the hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time, but he was conscious as he was taken away by ambulance.

None of the family members living in the home were injured by the fire.

The cause is still under investigation.
