LYSANDER, N.Y. — Heavy smoke filled the air in Lysander Friday morning as firefighters dealt with stubborn flames at a home on Plainville Road.

The property housed multiple apartments, however the owner says only three people were living upstairs.

Two were home at the time of the fire and both got out safely.

Owner Ed Prior says he spotted the fire on his way home Friday morning.

"I was coming from up the right way, four corners here," Prior said. "I come over the hill and I seen a lot of smoke. I knew it was on the corner, but I didn't know for sure which building."

Prior he was renovating the bottom floor, but firefighters don't believe that's where the fire started.

The cause remains under investigation.
