The Central New York SPCA is investigating a case of animal hoarding in Camillus.

A passerby alerted them to a home on Armstrong Road after seeing multiple cats in the window. A search warrant led to the discovery of one dog and as many as 50 cats inside.

The dog was in decent shape, but SPCA investigators say many of the cats have upper respiratory issues and problems with their eyes, some are even missing an eye.

The homeowner has been arrested before for the same thing, about 6-years ago.

Investigators say she and the animals were living in deplorable conditions.

"Everything is covered with cat feces and cat urine in the house. Bathrooms have been inoperable. There's human feces in there. So, pretty bad conditions in there, a lot of flies and a lot of areas in there for the animals to hide," said SPCA investigator William Bulaski.

Investigators could not access the second floor, so they placed traps inside to gather up the remaining animals.

The owner is charged with animal cruelty, but could face addiitonal charges once the vet inspects all the animals.

Codes officials have deemed the home unfit for occupancy.

The owner is working with adult services.
