CORTLAND, N.Y. -- A missing Cortland woman is found beaten in Nevada.

Authorities there have arrested and charged an Elmira man they say she met online.

Jon Wesley Turner, 23, faces a number of charges including first degree kidnapping and assault.

Detectives say he forced 25-year-old Mary Helms Bartholomew to leave the state of New York back in August.

Bartholomew's vehicle was found abandoned in the Big Bear area of California.

According to the victim, the two spent about two weeks in Las Vegas before heading to Beatty, Nevada.

That's where investigators say the two got in a fight at a motel.

Turner is accused of beating and choking the victim and injuring her with a hatchet.

Bartholomew was able to get away and get help.

Turner was taken into custody near the motel.

He's being held at a detention center in Nevada.

The investigation is ongoing.
