What is a tree? That question was raised during a lawsuit over snowmobile trails in the Adirondack Mountains. The environmental group Protect the Adirondacks sued the state over plans to widen trails in the area. But this month, a state Supreme Court upheld the state's ruling that the number of trees being cut is far less than what the group claims.
