Troy Police are currently searching for the owner of a malnourished dog found in the city. Named McCoy by police, the dog was found Monday in Frear Park during nightly patrols.

Spectrum News spoke with Deputy Police Chief Dan DeWolf Wednesday, who says the dog does not appear to have been on his own for long. His nails, ears, and coat are all in good condition, and he was not dirty when he was found.

He is now in the care of a local vet due to being severely underweight.

"It's so sad because obviously the poor thing is in rough shape; as far as not having any sustenance. It definitely tugs at your heart," DeWolf said.

Despite this, McCoy's prognosis is good, and Troy Police have turned to the public for help in finding the owner of the dog.

Responsible Animal Care is also offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the malnurished dog.
