SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Instead of being filled with people, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center was filled with toys Sunday.

Some 200 fire trucks, ambulances and tractor trailers rolled in, each stuffed with gifts for children in need.

Dozens of volunteers lined up to collect the gifts and pack them away into boxes. The toys were then loaded onto the Toys for Tots truck.

"I started off as a recipient many, many years ago and being able to give back to our community — what better way than to show them that we're here for them even in their worst times? We'll show them that tomorrow will be better," said Coordinator and United States Marines Corps Gunnery Sergeant Albert Roman Jr.

The goal was to collect 13,000 gifts, but organizers believe that number was well surpassed. The gifts will now be wrapped and loaded onto a train to deliver to children across the state.
