GUILDERLAND, N.Y. — It's Black Friday, which means holiday shopping is officially underway. And while many made the trek to the stores Thanksgiving night, there were still plenty of people out Friday morning.

There was a line outside Best Buy in Crossgates Mall before the store opened at 8 a.m.

According the National Retail Federation, an estimated 164 million people are expected to shop nationwide over the thanksgiving weekend. That includes Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

For many it's the thrill of waking up early and the rush of the crowds on Black Friday. With sales at a premium, consumers moved quickly to grab items like televisions, laptops, clothes, and shoes.

"We just love the Friday, the anticipation looking at all the fliers and coming down," said Lucia Collarelli, a Montgomery resident.

"We like the old tradition where it started on Black Friday," said Lenore Bellinger, a Ballston Spa resident. "We don't really like this thanksgiving. We like to spend time with our family."

Black Friday also marks the start of holiday hours at Crossgates Mall. Extended store hours will be in effect through Christmas.
