BUFFALO, N.Y. -- For Western New York political consultant Michael Caputo, the scene was very familiar.

Only this time it wasn't him going in front of the House Intelligence Committee. It was his friend and sometimes colleague Roger Stone.

"We deserve a public hearing. I didn't get one and neither did he because they're in control of all of this rigged game," Caputo said.

He said he's spoken with Stone since his testimony Tuesday as the committee continues to investigate allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Both worked on the Trump campaign.

"Roger noted that his experience was a lot like mine," Caputo said. "He felt like they were running a fishing expedition in there, looking for ways to hang out President Donald Trump and Paul Manafort and others."

In Stone's published opening remarks, he criticizes the committee for refusing to release the transcripts of Caputo's July testimony.

"I'm really glad Roger chose that important venue to bring up the bad treatment of me," he said.

Caputo has been calling for the transcripts to be made public since California Democrat Jackie Speier — who he's taken to calling “Jackie Smear” — accused him of possible perjury. He also threatened to sue Speier but says he's had difficulties.

"They have a lot of loopholes and a lot of protections under the law that they're not allowed to be sued when they're pursuing the business of the House of Representatives," Caputo said.

Tuesday, Stone called for his testimony to be released in full as well. Caputo doesn't expect the transcripts to ever go public

"The fact is, they put you behind closed doors so they can say whatever they want about you and nobody can look at a transcript or any video record to see that they're lying," he said.

He stood up for Stone's claim in the opening remarks, however, that he never had any relationship with Russia or any Russian entity.

"When I lived in Russia, I couldn't convince Roger to come over for dinner," Caputo said. "I couldn't even get him to call me back on my Russian telephone. He has absolutely no interest in Russia and never has had any interest in Russia."

He said he continues to believe the investigation is solely about smearing the president and the people surrounding him.
