ALBANY, N.Y. -- A 46-year-old man was shot dead in Albany's fifth homicide of 2017.

Police say shots were fired around 4 p.m. Sunday on Delaware Street during a neighborhood Father's Day barbecue.

The victim, Terrance Roberts of Albany, was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made.

Police say an altercation occurred and Roberts was shot multiple times.

Neighbors describe Roberts as a family man who was kind and loved spending time with friends.

"We know that there was an altercation before the shooting happened but there is no altercation whatsoever that should end with a person losing their life," said Albany Police Spokesperson Steve Smith.

Vivian Kornegay, Albany Common Council Member of the 2nd Ward, says neighbors on Delaware Street often have cook outs.

"They’re always peaceful and community oriented. There’s never any violence or disturbances," said Kornegay.

Albany police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact them at (518) 462-8039.
