ALBANY, N.Y. -- Twenty-two-year-old David Bridges and 21-year-old Rebecca Patrick are facing charges in the death of her one-year-old son.

According to an indictment unsealed Thursday, Bridges, Patrick's boyfriend, physically abused the boy, leading to the infant's death.

“To respond to these incidents and to see this tragedy is something they need to live with as well,” said Steve Smith, an Albany Police spokesperson.

Albany police say officers were called to an apartment at this building on South Allen Street on February 6. Inside, they found the infant unresponsive. The one-year-old was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he later died. That sparked an investigating, leading to the arrests of Bridges and Patrick.

“Every investigation is different," Smith said. "Obviously, we want to conduct a thorough investigation, especially an incident like this, where a young child lost his life. We just want to make sure we have everything in order.”

“I haven’t heard too much commotion going on," said Lawanda Morris, a neighbor. "A little bickering and arguing going on.”

Shes moved into this building about two months ago. Morris lives on the second floor and was shocked to learn about the infant's death.

“I hear her kid crying off and on," Morris said. "But it doesn’t seem like nothing really was going on over there.”

Bridges has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, among other charges. Meanwhile, Patrick is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Both were arraigned in county court Thursday and pleaded not guilty.

Bridges was sent to Albany County Correctional Facility. Patrick was released under the supervision of the probation department.

No new court dates have been set at this time.
